Lalas' Marie the one who started it all 🤍
Hi, I'm Lala 🌷
This whole little shop began with Lalas' Marie, my cat a very quiet house after she was gone, and a drawing I made at 2am because I couldn't bear to let her go.
I never planned to be someone who draws animals all day. I planned to be a girl with a warm little shadow at her feet and for a long, lovely while, that's exactly what I was. Lalas' Marie followed me from room to room, sat outside the bathroom door like I might vanish if she blinked, and every single time I cried she put one paw on my knee, as if to say I've got you, don't be silly, I'm right here.
When Marie passed away, the house went quiet in a way I didn't know a house could be. One night I couldn't sleep, so I sat on the floor with my iPad and started drawing her. Badly. Through tears. Over and over. It was the only way I could think of to keep her in the room with me and when I finally finished, something in my chest loosened for the first time in weeks.
Then a stranger asked if I'd draw her cat. Then someone's rabbit, then a very old greyhound with a very silly name. And that is how thefurdoodle quietly came to be: on a bedroom floor, out of grief first, and then slowly, softly out of pure joy. I sign my work Lala Marie after her, so she comes along to every portrait I draw.
Every line by hand
Drawn from scratch on my iPad. No tracing, no filters, no AI.
I reply to everything
Every message comes straight to me. No teams, no bots, just Lala.
The tiny details
The wonky ear, the freckle, the eyebrow. That's the whole job.
Fuelled by tea
And an unreasonable number of photos of other people's pets.
Lala x

What kind of photo should I send?
Anything clear and well lit where you can see their face properly — a phone photo is absolutely perfect. Daylight near a window is my favourite. Try to get down to their eye level if you can, and send two or three options if you're torn. If you only have one photo of them and it isn't perfect, send it anyway. I have worked from some very blurry, very precious pictures and I will always tell you honestly what I can do.
How long will it take?
Most portraits are finished within 3-5 days. You'll get a preview before anything is final, and if something doesn't look quite like them, tell me — I'd much rather adjust it than have you nod politely at a drawing that isn't right.
What exactly do I receive?
A high-resolution digital file, sent straight to your email. It's yours to print as many times as you like, at whatever size you fancy — a little desk frame, a big statement print for the hallway, a mug, a tote bag, a birthday card for the pet's other favourite human.
How much does it cost?
One pet is £35, and every extra pet is £5 — so two pets is £40, three is £45, and so on. Adding a background is £10.
Your pets don't need to be in the same photo. Send me one good picture of each and I'll bring them together as if they'd posed nicely all along, which they never do.
With or without a background?
Without a background, your pet floats on a clean colour — bold, graphic, very easy to frame. That's the standard price. With a background I add colour and shapes around them for something more decorative, and that's £10 extra.
Not sure? Pick either and tell me in the notes; I'll advise honestly when I see your photo.
Can I order a portrait of a pet who has passed away?
Of course, and please know I'll treat it with real care. Tell me their name and anything you'd like me to know about them. If the only photos you have are old or grainy, send them anyway and we'll talk it through gently. These portraits mean an enormous amount to me to make.
Do you draw animals other than cats and dogs?
Always. Rabbits, horses, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, one very handsome cow. If you love them, I'll draw them.
Can I use my portrait on Instagram?
Yes please, I'd love that! Use it as a profile picture, post it, print it, put it on a t-shirt for yourself. Personal use is all yours. If you'd like to use it commercially — for a business, a product you sell — just message me first and we'll sort it out.
